Refreshing Leaders & Leadership Families
|
|
Leaders and ministry couples are under tremendous stress in ministry. Over the years, David & Marcy have made it a ministry to invite leaders and ministry couples to a comfortable place. They began by having these couples into their own home. Then as the demand for "Come Away" retreats grew, they found convieniently located Inns or Conference centers where they could invite these couples and individuals to "Come Away" from their ministry stresses and rest for a time to regroup, worship, and be refreshed.
Two challenges have always been a part of this ministry:
First, convincing leaders that they NEED to come apart and rest. Even though the inspiration for this ministry comes from Jesus's recognition in Mark 6:30-31:
30 The apostles returned to Jesus and told him all that they had done and taught. 31 And he said to them, “Come away by yourselves to a desolate place and rest a while.” For many were coming and going, and they had no leisure even to eat. [ESV] David & Marcy know many such leaders. Perhaps you do too!
And second, funding these retreats [especially since D & M focused on leaders and staffs of small, rural and urban churches in poor places].*
Many have been helped in these times aside. Some have been restored to ministry. Some marriages have healed. Several are being planned as part of our five-year ministry goal.
*This is a specialized ministry that you can participate in. Either as a guest in need of refreshment or and/or as someone who makes a "Come Away" happen for someone in ministry. If you or someone you know owns a bed & breakfast or comfortable home on a lake or in the mountains, and you would like to make if available for this important ministry, PLEASE write us and let us know. We can also give you a tax-deductible receipt for the rental value of such a place. This is perfectly legal and called "a gift-in-kind." Please contact us on behalf of these precious leadership families in the small places who could use your encouragement.
